• Problem Statement: Enterprise Resource Planning Systems such as SAP facilitate the efficient operation of businesses and their growth if and when properly deployed. In the past, however, these systems have been big, expensive and difficult to deploy relative to the size of, and resources available to, the vast majority of companies in developing countries
• TDC Response: The introduction of SAP Business One, an innovative ERP system targeted at growing businesses. Activities involved identifying a potential business partner and technology transfer agent already involved in the sale and support of SAP Business One in the UK. This was followed by the development of an Africa business strategy with the company which involved market surveys in key markets, identification of potential partners in regional markets and acquisition and implementation of 2 pilot projects to test fit of business application to market conditions. Also worked with promoters to obtain necessary accreditation from Technology Vendor to sell in chosen markets.
• Outcome: SAP Business One has gained significant traction in Africa, and in particular in Nigeria where there are now more than 50 clients. The TDC sponsored company is the market leader in terms of sales and implementation projects with about 50% market share.
