• Problem Statement: Skilled Technical Resources are fundamental to the development of the productive sector of the economy. In Nigeria, declining educational standards have decimated the ranks of technical workers. The problem is particularly acute in the oil and gas sector where security issues make it extremely dangerous for foreign workers to operate.
• TDC Response: Technical Training and Competency Development Initiative – The TCDI aims to contribute to the development of Nigerians and Nigeria by making relevant, high-quality, internationally recognized, practical, professional/vocational and academic training in technical skill areas available, affordable and convenient. TDC identified a leading Nigerian company involved in technical training and has vastly increased its capacity to operate by structuring a multitude of international partnerships backed by contracts with multinationals operating locally. These partnerships are executing jobs and thus developing skills and capacity, and transferring technology in a multitude of technical areas. TDC has also forged relationships with key regulators and policy-makers to influence the direction of policy.
• Outcome: The TCDI has assembled a curriculum of courses to be delivered in a secure world-class training facility in Victoria Island Lagos. The facility is fully equipped with state-of-the-art computing and telecommunication equipment for e- and blended learning. Contracts for training and development was secured with a major multinational oil and gas company and a key government agency.
